RENOVATIONS
In 1997, Carver Center embarked on a $1.2 million building
renovation. Some of the improvements included a new roof, new gym, additional classrooms
and moving the day care from the second level to the first level. Changes were also made
to the building to meet code compliance's like new electrical wiring, handicap accessible,
a new elevator, new plumbing and a new security system, including surveillance cameras.
Physical improvements were also made to the building, including taking the boarded up
windows down and putting glass windows in.
The most important changes took place in day care. Not only was
it moved to the first floor for safety purposes, but new accommodations were made. These
included a one-way mirror so parents and supervisors can monitor day care classrooms
without the children or teachers knowing. "Scaled" facilities were also put in.
Scaled facilities means tables, chairs and even toilets are sized to fit a child, not an
adult.
